Intel Celeron G1820 review and testing

The present review is devoted to CPU Intel Celeron G1820 which is a good candidate to build inexpensive office computer as it has all necessary capabilities: sufficient performance level to cope with everyday tasks, low power consumption, integrated graphics core and of course low price.

As we can see from the table, the tested model Intel Celeron G1820 takes an intermediate position and has enough balanced performance.

The box is very colorful and is characterized by a large number of printing with a predominance of blue and yellow colors. The most informative element of the front side is a small sticker with the name of the model and used CPU socket.

This set is quite standard for most inexpensive Intel processors. However, it contains everything you need to start the work.

Cooling system consists of a small fan and round aluminum radiator. Intel E97379-001 model produced at the company Foxconn is used as a fan. Its operating voltage is 12 V and current strength is 0.17 A. The connection to the motherboard is performed via standard 4-pin connector.

Radiator is made of aluminum without any additional copper parts. In general this cooling system should be enough for the processor Intel Celeron G1820 with TDP value of 53W. Let’s remind that a similar cooling system is shipped with more productive solution Intel Core i3-4130.

Using utility CPU-Z 1.69 it became possible to obtain detailed information about the processor at full load. Intel Celeron G1820 does not support Intel Turbo Boost technology and its nominal cock frequency at the moments of reading was 2702 MHz. Multiplier index was “x27” and the core voltage 0.975V. Let’s note that a bench cooler was used for cooling during testing process and CPU temperature did not exceed 40°C.

After the transition to idle mode the multiplier index was dropped to “x8” which led to a reduction of clock frequency up to 800MHz. In this mode the supply voltage was reduced to 0,711V and the temperature up to 30°C.

Now let's examine the scheme of cache memory distribution. There are 32 KB of cache memory per core with 8 associativity channels for caching the data and instructions. Also 256 KB of L2 cache with 8 associativity channels per each core and 2MB of total cache memory in L3 with 8 associativity channels is available.

Built-in memory controller does not support the memory capacity more than 1333MHz. The maximum memory capacity is 32 GB which more than enough for this low cost CPU.

Information about the integrated graphic core Intel HD Graphics was obtained using the GPU-Z 0.7.8 program. It includes 10 universal shader pipelines, 2 rasterization blocks and 2 texture units and also has the support of instructions OpenCL and DirectCompute 5.0. Basic GPU frequency is 350MHz and dynamic speed reaches 1050MHz. During testing under load its temperature did not exceed 36°C. Data exchange between the graphics chip and memory was performed via 128-bit bus with carrying capacity 21.3 GB/s.
