Continuing familiarity with the lineup of GIGABYTE motherboards with integrated quad-core processor Intel Celeron J1900, we will talk about compact model GIGABYTE GA-J1900M-D2P of microATX format. It stands out by a diverse set of ports and connectors, traditionally high quality performance and support for today's digital video output HDMI. But before moving on to the review of new item, we recall that the detailed characteristics of the installed processor you can find the material on a different motherboard of this line, namely the GIGABYTE GA-J1900N-D3V. And now let’s look to the characteristics of the hero of this review.

Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-J1900M-D2P comes in a small cardboard box decorated with quality printing in dark colors. First of all, the design contains the model name of the manufacturer. Slightly below there is a logo of branded concept Ultra Durable, which includes the following features:

  • Ultra Cool & Performance – circuitry contains exclusively high quality components such as solid capacitors and FETs with low on-resistance (Low RDS (on)). They are distinguished by an increased level of efficiency, stability and reliability.
  • Ultra Safe - this model is equipped with additional protection of ports USB and LAN. Each LAN and USB port works in conjunction with a special protective filter that is able to withstand severe electrostatic discharge, which protects the system from power surges, even during a thunderstorm. There is the presence of protective circuits, safeguard internal components against overvoltage and an improved lying of fiberglass-based PCB, thus reducing the negative impact of moisture.

Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-J1900M-D2P is made on dark brown PCB in microATX format with slightly reduced size (190 x 180 mm). Due to this fact we can see quite extraordinary on-board elements layout. In particular, DIMM-slots are located on opposite sides of the PCB.

As for the convenience of the assembly, the original layout won’t prevent you, as a manufacturer equipped the DIMM-slots with latches on one side only.

Most ports and connectors are grouped in the central part of the PCB. Here are: front panel audio leading-in socket, S/PDIF Out, two sockets COM and two modules for connection of additional interfaces USB 2.0. Total number of USB 2.0 sockets is eight: four are internal and four on the interface panel. As for ports USB 3.0, its quantity is only one and is placed on interface panel. All interfaces are realized by controllers hat are integrated in CPU.

The lower right corner, in addition to the connectors for the system fan and CMOS, contains a block for front panel connection with a convenient color display.

The possibility of organizing a disk subsystem presented two ports SATA 3Gb/s, arranged perpendicular to the surface of the board. Both interfaces operate thanks to the integrated controller.

The tested model is equipped by two DIMM-slots. They support modules of standards DDR3 and DDR3L. The modules operating up to 1333 MHz in nominal mode are supported. The maximum capacity of RAM is 16 GB. However, the used controller supports only 8 GB of memory.

The cooling system of this motherboard consists of one aluminum radiator, which provides heat transfer from the processor Intel Celeron J1900. The following temperature was recorded in the process of testing:

  • processor heatsink - 46,3°C;
  • elements of the power subsystem - 50,5°C.

Demonstrated results tell us that the preset passive cooling system copes with its direct tasks.

Processor power supply is performed via 2-phase scheme for cores and additional nodes. Converter is based on a digital PWM controller ISL95836. All components of CPU power system have a high degree of reliability: there are solid capacitors, MOSFETs with low on-resistance and choke with ferrite core. Power is supplied via the main 24-pin and additional 4-pin connectors.

As you can see, the novelty doesn’t have the support to install a discrete graphics card, so to expand its functionality, the user has only two available slots: PCI Express 2.0 x1 and PCI.

Multi I/O opportunities are based on controller ITE IT8620E, which controls the operation of the system fan, ports, COM, LPT and PS/2, and provides monitoring.

As an integrated controller does not support bus PCIE, the operation of the socket is realized via bridge PCIE-PCI, based on the controller ITE IT8892E.

To realize the capabilities of integrated graphics core into the CPU you have two video outputs: D-Sub, and HDMI, which operate through the controller ASMedia ASM1442K.

Sound subsystem of model is based on the 8-channel HAD-codec Realtek ALC887 which supports 2/4/5.1/7.1 audio systems.

It is a pretty good configuration of interface panel, which offers five USB ports for connecting peripherals and two video outputs, including HDMI. Note the possibility of providing two COM ports and preset LPT on the interface PC board which significantly expands the list of supported peripherals (especially for office and industrial use). The features include only inconvenient connection of the multichannel speakers, which will have to use the audio outputs on the front panel.

The possibility of organizing the cooling system inside the body is pretty standard. Here are two fan connectors, one of which is used for the CPU cooling system (3-pin), while the second is intended for system fan (4-pin).
