Packaging and content

Lenovo Miix 2 10 Lenovo Miix 2 10

The novelty comes in the cardboard box with compact dimensions. Packaging has discreet classic look with minimum amount of needed information. On the front panel there is a considerable image of tablet installed in the docking station, the company logo and model of the device. The back side has a few stickers with a short technical information and data about the manufacturer.

Scope of supply of Lenovo Miix 2 10 includes the compact power adapter Lenovo ADLX18TWT2AH with capacity of 18 W (12 V at 1.5 A) and a set of documents.

In addition, traditionally Lenovo offers to purchase separately a number of branded accessories that are useful in everyday life.

Design and elements layout

Lenovo Miix 2 10

Lenovo Miix 2 10 belongs to the second generation of the devices running under OS Windows 8/8.1 and is available in two popular formats: 8 and 10.1 inches. For testing we have elder model, which compared to the first generation has an updated design, display with higher resolution, more internal memory with the possibility of its extension (there is support for memory cards), more functional docking station, an updated sound system and a more powerful hardware platform.

Lenovo Miix 2 10

The front side of the tablet is covered by a protective glass (the manufacturer does not specify the mark) with a simple oleophobic coating and barely noticeable and protruding plastic trim along the contour, which is designed to protect the screen against minor mechanical damage. According modern standard black glossy frames are rather big, approximately 21 mm on each side, 17.5 mm at the top and 18 mm from the bottom. But this ensures confident and pretty comfortable grip for both hands that do not overlap the screen. In the upper left part is the logo of the company, and closer to the center is placed a front camera and light sensor. In the lower part is a touch key Windows with the vibro call.

The ends, except for the lower (metal) are made of silver matte plastic. The upper and lower sides are beveled and have angular, rounded shape at the extreme points. The top side has the microphone hole, and on the bottom is universal (13-pin) connector with two holes for connecting a keyboard docking station.

On the left side there are: a combined audio jack (mini-jack 3,5 mm), ports micro-HDMI and micro-USB, slots of microSD card and Micro-SIM (in the version with support for 3G) under the cap, and above is slot of speaker and button "on/lock."

Lenovo Miix 2 10

The right side has the volume rocker, another speaker hole and socket for connecting the charger. In addition, from this perspective you can see how a lower flat part smoothly flows into finer and a convex top.

The back side (with narrowed and rounded edges on the top and on the sides) is made of plastic, which is very pleasant to the touch and not easily soiled soft-touch coating. Unfortunately, it is very sensitive to mechanical damage. Scratches may appear instantly in case of unkempt use, so this must be kept in mind when using the device. It should be noted that the color of the panel can be changed from silver to dark gray, depending on the ambient lighting conditions. Closer to the upper left corner is the logo of the company Lenovo. In the opposite side is eye of the main camera, and below the logos Intel Inside and Windows.

In general, Lenovo Miix 2 10 is assembled very well: without any gaps or backlashes. Body rigidity is good: it is very solid; does not bend or change its geometry under moderate torsion; glass is not pressed; stains on the screen are absent.

On the whole, the tablet looks pretty interesting and enjoyable. The attention is attracted by beveled ends and back side, which changes the hue depending on the lighting and has a pleasant soft-touch coating, though sensitive to mechanical damage. Despite the considerable dimensions (260.9 x 173.2 x 9.2 mm) and weight (620 g), the novelty is quite comfortable to hold with one hand even for a long time.

Docking station

Tablet Lenovo Miix 2 10 is equipped with a keyboard docking station that turns it into a full-fledged compact laptop. It is made in the same style as the tablet. The inner part and sides (except the back) are made of silver plastic, and the outer and back parts have gray plastic with a soft-touch coating. Also on the basis are four rubber legs, which add stability on slippery surfaces and prevent scratches on the work surface.

At the top of the front is tablet mount with the firm socket, which has a rather unusual and complex shape and allows to fix it in two modes: "Laptopp" and "Console".

The first option is useful for working with text or other office applications. And the second is useful when viewing photos or videos. The tilt angle is fixed and it is not always comfortable, but taking into account the use of IPS-display, any problems should not arise. It should be noted that in order to prevent abrasion the lower metal part is covered with a soft silicone.

The socket is metal. The central part has a proprietary connector and two small guides which do not always provide the only proper connection of tablet to the docking station from the first. To secure is used a pair of fairly powerful magnets located on both sides of the connector on the support level. Due to this aspect, even when lifting device taking the screen the docking station does not disconnected indicating about good reliability of fixation.

Behind a massive grille of rear part of the docking station is a small subwoofer, with the result (tablet + docking station) gives us a sound system of format 2.1, which is quite rare in the mobile devices. On the side faces the back part has two angled connectors USB 2.0, which would be enough to connect additional peripherals. While ideally we would like to see at least one high-speed port USB 3.0.

Keyboard unit is represented by almost a full set of standard keys ([F] buttons are separated as a function on a numerical row) that use all the available width. Branded keyboard AccuType is equipped with keys that have undergone minimal reduction. They are separated to a comfortable enough distance, although some minor keys have changed its usual location ([PrtScr], [PgUp] and [PgDn]). In addition it will take you time to get used to narrowed block of arrows in the bottom right part. They have a short travel and an enough tactile feedback. Symbols are printed: the main are highlighted in white, and service have orange coloring. The base of the keyboard unit is pretty well fixed, so during the work they are not squeezed.

Lenovo Miix 2 10

The touchpad has a compact size (80 x 45 mm) and does not have dedicated keys, so you will get used. Finger sliding across the touchpad is quite pleasant, and the sensitivity is high. There is also support of multi-touch gestures.

It should be noted that in the assembled version Lenovo Miix 2 10 looks pretty strict and stylish. Even there is a visual relation of devices with laptops lineup Lenovo ThinkPad. In addition, the weight of the tablet with the docking station is just over a kilo, which positively affects the ease of transportation.
