At the present moment the segment of solid state drives is full of all sorts of drive models. Many IT-companies have lineups of SSD-drives of various sizes and performance. One of the leaders in the number of all possible variations of such high-speed data storage devices takes well-known company OCZ Storage Solutions. Such popularity has appeared primarily due to the fact that in most cases its products are focused on the high-speed systems for gamers and enthusiasts, but at the same time they are not cheap.

Specification can be characterized as sufficiently detailed. Here the manufacturer provided details about the operating temperature and limits of vibration and shock loads. A special attention should be paid to the maximum operating temperature of the device which is equal to 70°C. This value is high enough, and it shows the possibility of using the disk even in compact systems that have some problems with cooling. Given the thickness of 6.7 mm, it can be used even in Ultrabooks with high-performance processors. Speed characteristics are a bit modest when compared with the OCZ VECTOR 150, but the cost is uniquely more pleasant.

The tested model with capacity of 240 GB takes a golden mean in performance, but the speed dispersion is not as significant as it was when considering the disks from other families.

Key control role performs controller OCZ (Indilinx) Barefoot 3 M10 labeled as «IDX500M10-BC». The main features of this chip are:

  • the presence of two computational processors (ARM Cortex and OCZ Aragon);
  • reduced frequency of ARM-based processors, thus reducing the power consumption;
  • support for encryption using 256-bit AES-algorithm;
  • 8-channel memory controller.

This controller is almost twin brother of Indilinx Barefoot 3 installed in OCZ Vertex 150 with capacity of 240 GB, but there are some differences. In particular we are talking about the frequency of ARM-based processors, which in lower in the test drive.

The memory chips are placed on both side of the board. Chips produced by Toshiba labeled «TH58TEG7DDKBA4C», made on 19-nm process technology with multi-level-cell (MLC) are applied. A total number is 16 banks with capacity of 16 GB each. Total amount is 256 GB. 240 GB are allocated for the needs of the user. Reserved 16 GB are used to maintain high performance and correct operation of the disc.

Power control is provided by chip Texas Instruments TPS652510, which is responsible for synchronous voltage conversion.

Two chips of company Micron with FBGA-code "D9PSH" act as cache memory. Each of them has a capacity of 2 Gb/s (256 MB) and runs with the frequency of DDR3-1600 MHz with voltage of 1.35 V.
