Most modern of active cooling systems for graphics cards use one of the two fan types: axial or turbine. The advantages of the first are simple design, efficiency and low noise. The second type can boast that emits hot air outside the computer case, without disturbing the rest of the thermal balance of system components. Models with turbine propellers are perfect for Multi-GPU, since the distance between them in the system case virtually does not effect on the volume of air flow and performance of cooling in general.

The graphics card is shipped in a colorful cardboard packaging made in typical “icy” sttyle. This design is intended to emphasize the outstanding characteristics of the cooling trends. On the front side of the box except the manufacturer's logo also is a message about the presence of a complete functional software for monitoring and overclocking - HIS iTurbo.

Reverse side of the box has the description of all supported technologies and interface panel connectors. Also here are the main advantages of the standard cooling system HIS IceQ:

  • when installing two similar graphics cards in mode AMD CrossFireX there is no intersection of airflows that reduces the efficiency of both cooling systems;
  • proprietary dual-slot cooler of turbine type is designed in such way that all the hot air is expelled outside the body without heating the other components;
  • protective cover is made of reflective plastic and can be easily modded with an optional backlight.

Module of power supply stabilization of the card is made according to three-phase scheme: two phases for the GPU and one for the memory chips. Chip Anpec APW7098 is used as controller of two phases GPU power.

HIS R7 250 IceQ Boost Clock does not have connectors for additional power supply unit: 75 W is totally enough. This value it can provide a slot PCI Express 3.0 x16. Also there is no connector AMD CrossFireX, because this technology is implemented only at the program level (allows you to combine up to two graphics cards).

Graphics chip AMD Oland XT made according to 28-nm process technology is a base of the product. It has 384 unified shader pipelines, 24 texture units and 8 rasterization units. Graphic processor runs at 1000 MHz in the nominal mode and dynamically accelerated to 1050 MHz depending on the load.

One of the main advantages of this card is legendary turbine cooling system HIS IceQ. As mentioned above, this cooling system protrudes beyond the printed circuit board case and increases the overall length of the graphics accelerator up to 203 mm. The cooling system is made by ARCTIC Switzerland AG company and has a fairly simple structure. The heat is removed from the GPU by a small aluminum radiator with longitudinal ribs, creating a directional airflow. Then it moved outside the case via a plastic case due to the fan operation.

During automatic speed control of the fan blades, rotation at the maximum load, the GPU was heated up to 56°C. The cooler rotated at a rate of 1,900 rpm, which corresponds to 55% of its maximum. Its operation can be described as below the average.

After the forced increase of blades rotational up to 100% (2550 rpm) the graphic processor temperature dropped up to 54°C. At the same time the noise level was "below the average".

In idle mode frequency of the GPU was automatically decreased to 300 MHz. In this state the GPU temperature did not exceed 33°C, and the noise of cooling system was 1290 rpm almost indistinguishable compared to other system components.
