Company Hightech Information System (HIS) is well known to many users as a manufacturer of graphics cards based on AMD solutions. While its products are favorably distinguishing due to very original cooling systems with very quiet coolers of turbine type.

This review will be devoted to very affordable new product - HIS R7 260X iCooler 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E DLDVI-D + DLDVI-I/DP/HDMI. As you might guess by its title, the tested model is a modification of AMD Radeon R7 260Х with one gigabyte of video memory GDDR5. Novelty has not only a very affordable price, but also compact dimensions, high-quality circuitry, as well as the original cooling system HIS iCooler.

Before proceeding to the review, we note that at the time of reviewing the graphics card was available in retail at an average price of about $130. This makes it one of the most affordable options of AMD Radeon R7 260X on the market.

Also note that for convenience we will use its abbreviated name: HIS R7 260X iCooler (H260XFN1GD) or HIS H260XFN1GD. This is done in order not to confuse it with the version  HIS R7 260Х iCooler (H260XF1GD) which has already visited our lab.

As you can see for testing we have a modification of AMD Radeon R7 260X with reduced graphics core frequency up to 1000 MHz, which in the standard 2-GB version is 1100 MHz. As for the video memory, 1 GB of GDDR5 runs at effective frequency 6000 MHz, although the reference figure of analog 2 GB is at level of 6500 MHz. Note that this reduction of operating frequencies is a common solution for modifications AMD Radeon R7 260X with 1 GB of video memory.

Packaging of graphics card HIS R7 260X iCooler (H260XFN1GD) is designed as a small vertically oriented box that is framed in a corporate style with high quality and colorful printing. In addition to references to the capacity and type of video memory we note the use of corporate iCooler cooler and the internal interface of PCI Express 3.0.

On the reverse side of the box is a listof supported API and technologies, as well as a list of system requirements. Based on the recommendations, the power supply should have a capacity of at least 500 W and have one 6-pin PCIe.

New product is made on blue PCB with the reference design. It uses quite familiar layout of on-board components: all memory chips are soldered on the face around the graphics core and the components of the power subsystem are located behind the interface panel.

The reverse side of the graphics card is notable not only by the usual fixing screws of the cooling system, but also soldered PWM controller near connector AMD CrossFireX.

Power of test model is performed on five-phase circuit (three phases for the GPU and one for the PLL and memory chips). As for the circuitry, it is typed using only the highest quality components, namely solid capacitors and ferrite chokes.

The power subsystem is realized on the GPU digital PWM controller uP1643P, which supports the management of five phases and provides protection from excessive supply voltage.

In accordance with the recommendations of AMD, power is provided by the slot PCI Express 3.0 x16 and one additional 6-pin connector located on the front side of the card. Note the competent location of the connector PCIe, in order to connect and disconnect the power cord without discomfort.

At the heart of new item is the graphics chip AMD Bonaire, produced by 28-nm process technology. It uses 2,080 M of transistors placed on an area of 160 mm2. It's not a secret that the graphics card AMD Radeon R7 260X is an analog of the model AMD Radeon HD 7790. It has 56 texture units and 16 raster blocks. In this case it works on a similar frequency of 1000 MHz. Again, in reference 2 GB version this figure is up to 1100 MHz.

Memory card with total capacity of 1 GB is collected with the help of the 4 chips with capacity of 256 MB each manufactured by the company SK Hynix. According to the marking (H5GQ2H24AFR-R0C) and documentation their nominal frequency is 5 GHz, although in our case it was increased to 6000 MHz. Data exchange between the graphics core and memory is realized through a 128-bit bus, which is able to pass 96.0 GB of information per second.

The graphics card HIS R7 260X iCooler (H260XFN1GD) with installed a proprietary cooling system iCooler takes two expansion slots and has a total length of 195 mm (as measured in our lab).

The cooler consists of small all-metal radiator, one 87-mm fan, as well as the plastic casing covering the entire structure above.

The fan is made by Apistek company and is labeled as «GA91O2U». Its rated voltage is 12 V, and the current is 0.4 A, that is, its capacity reaches 4.8 W. It is interesting to note that it has two rows of blades: big-sized operate due to the principle of traditional axial fans, and small create radial airflow. Such design is actively applies in some of ASUS graphics cards.

To cool the field-effect transistors the power subsystem uses a separate small radiator with thermal interface on the back side.

During automatic speed control of fan blades at maximum load the graphics core was warmed up to 60 degrees and cooler worked with the 25% of its maximum capacity. At the same time the noise level can be described as "quiet".

Under the maximum speed of the fan blades, the GPU temperature dropped to 49°. In this case, the noise rose above the average, and it was not comfortable for continuous use.

In case of absence of load the frequency of the graphics core and memory is automatically reduced, allowing to reduce power consumption and heat generation of graphics core. In this mode, the GPU temperature does not exceed 32 degrees.

In general, a proprietary cooling system iCooler provided not only a decent performance, but also quite comfortable level of noise in everyday use. Of course, in the case of increasing the fan speed to the maximum level in order to achieve higher performance when overclocking, you have to put up with high noise levels.
