This solution increases the ease of transport and storage of the headset. Most of the descriptions are given to external block ASUS Strix DSP: control elements, the surround modes and noise reduction. More details on these will be discussed below.

Design, build quality, functionality and usability

ASUS Strix DSP

When folded the headset ASUS Strix DSP looks original and even a little aggressive, which fully corresponds to its positioning game. Predatory owl eye is a theme in the design of the headphones.

External headband of headphones is not adjustable in height and is made of hard plastic. It does not cause discomfort, as the plastic part is not in contact with the head. The inner headband is soft and does not compresses the head. It is trimmed in leather (or its successful imitation). Inside is soft filler, due to which it naturally fits the head. On the inner side of the base of the headband are applied designations left and right channels.

The top of the headband has stylistic image of series ASUS Strix.

A special attention is given to practical design of detachable omni-directional microphone, which is coated with a pleasant to touch rubberized material. It is very flexible: it can be fixed in any convenient position and distance.

The external unit uses a case of practical matt plastic which gets dirty. Control elements are arranged on the front and upper faces, and the stability on the table is provided by rubberized legs of wide area.

At the center of the top panel is the volume control on the perimeter surrounded by a yellow LED. By clicking on the control the volume is turned off. To select the optimal sound mode you should use the three-position switch on the front panel. In the transition to the mode «Spectrum» user has four profiles optimally configured for different genres of games. Attention is paid to racing simulators, strategy, role-playing games and shooters. When setting selector to position «Mic» microphone sensitivity is regulated, and «Main» will change the volume of the headphones.

Four buttons on the top panel allow you to activate the surround mode, the headphone amplifier, disconnect the microphone signal and activate the external powered speakers. They are connected to the unit via the analog 3.5 mm connector, like headphones (for which there is a second connector).

The bottom side of the unit has a switch of noise reduction system (its microphone is located on the top panel) and the type of surround (two and eight-channel).

The basis of the external unit is 32-bit audio processor Cirrus Logic CS47028C. It is made in accordance with the design of SoC, integrating on a single chip all the necessary blocks. In particular, it incorporates 2-channel 24-bit ADC (105 dB dynamic range and -98 dB harmonic distortion and noise) and 8-channel 24-bit DAC (108 dB dynamic range and -98 dB harmonic distortion and noise). Storage of information is entrusted to the flash memory cFeon EN39LV010 with capacity of 1 Mb. And the processing of sound from a microphone is realized by chip Cmedia CM7001N.

We did not have claims to the logic of the control the unit: it takes some time getting used to, after which all the functionality will be mastered. But the comfort of headphones has comments. The fact that they sit on the head very dense, so during extended gaming sessions, some users may have a feeling of discomfort. Most likely, a few dozen hours of use the design will be more convenient, but still it is desirable to try before you buy them.

Selection of materials and quality of the fit of parts is left feeling of expensive and durable products. Therefore, there are no claims.
