Graphics card ASUS GeForce GT 720 Silent based on NVIDIA GeForce GT 720: review and testing

In August 2014 NVIDIA has announced another addition to the family of graphics cards NVIDIA GeForce 700-series by the model NVIDIA GeForce GT 720. As you might guess from its labeling, this model is the entry-level solution and has a low cost. The interesting fact is that the reference version of the new item is made in a low-profile format that clearly hints at its target destination to build ultra compact low-cost multimedia systems.

The heart of NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 is a graphics chip is NVIDIA GK208 (Kepler) produced by the 28-nm technology process. It consists of one active SMX-cluster which includes 192 unified shader processors (CUDA-cores) and 16 texture units and 8 ROPs. The graphics card can be equipped with memory GDDR3 or GDDR5. Data exchange between the graphic processor and the memory is performed via the 64-bit bus. Also note a very low power consumption which is stated at around 19 W.

This modification from ASUS fully complies with all the recommendations of company NVIDIA for NVIDIA GeForce GT 720. The only difference is the use of own cooling system and improved circuitry. Operating frequencies also fully conform to the recommended modifications to standard video memory GDDR3.

Power supply of ASUS GT720-SL-2GD3-BRK is performed on a single-phase circuit. Cooling system is plain and compact, which is quite logic, taking into account the low level of power consumption and heat dissipation. For cooling the GPU is applied metal heatsink with dimensions 50 x 102 x 28 mm with a large number of ridges that extend the effective heat dissipation area.

As you can see in case the maximum load the graphics core was warmed up to 50 degrees, which is a good result. That is, features of preset passive cooler are enough for efficient cooling GPU.
