Hightech Information System Limited (HIS) Company is well known to our readers due to high quality and interesting video accelerator based on AMD graphics chips. This time we have tested mid- price range graphics card, which is performed on the basis of AMD Radeon R9 270X. This segment is quite popular among users because of good value and performance.

Recently we tested graphics card HIS R9 270X IceQ X2 Turbo Boost Clock 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E DLDVI-I/HDMI/2xMini DP which left only positive impression. The next one is another model from this line - HIS R9 270X IceQ Boost Clock 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E DLDVI-I/HDMI/2xMini DP, which was performed with the use of improved electronic components and equipped with brand IceQ turbine type cooler.

The product is supplied in cardboard box with vertical direction and well-known “ice” polygraphy.  On the front side in addition to HIS and AMD logos we find brand IceQ X cooler and HIS iTurbo utility, which is designed to monitor and overclock of graphics card. At the bottom of the box there are designations that indicate the support of internal bus PCI Express 3.0, the presence of 2 GB GDDR5-memory and the ability to output the image in format 4K Ultra HD.

Graphics card attracts attention thanks to proprietary turbine cooling system. The case includes the following information: model name, cooler type, HIS iTurbo logo.

Along on the top edge of the graphics adapter there is angle stiffener that prevents against deflection and the appearance of cracks in places of soldering. Also we want to note the usage of screws for reliable and efficient mounting of the cooler.

After deinstallation of cooling system we can learn printed circuit board. Graphics card HIS H270XQ2G2M performed on a compact PCB of blue color. It is made according the standards of 28-nm process and based on micro-architecture AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN). The structure of the AMD Radeon R9 270X includes 1280 universal shader processors, 32 rasterization units and 80 texture units. This crystal combines 2800 million transistors on the area of 212 mm2. Engineers of HIS Company has used a proprietary cooler IceQ which is very similar to “reference” turbine one, but has a number of improvements. We have already described it in review HIS 7870 IceQ 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E DVI/HDMI/2xMini DP. Graphics card of installed cooling system takes only two expansion slots and has a length of 300 mm. Thus it is perfect for usage in conjunction of AMD CrossFireX, as the efficiency of its work is not affected by the closeness of another graphics card, and hot air is expelled outside the case.

The cooler consists of a turbine and copper base radiator (35 x 28 mm). This feature helps the uniform heat distribution over the entire area of the heat exchanger. Contact with GPU is performed via thin layer of thermo-interface. The radiator is collected by 29 nickel aluminum plates which are located along the PCB.

For more uniform heat distribution over the entire radiator area four nickel copper heat pipes are used. Last two have diameter of 6 mm and central - 8 mm. Heat pipes are firmly soldered to the aluminum radiator and to the basis. However its coverage contributes to a longer service life as it effectively reduces the impact of corrosion processes.

In addition, the radiator has mounted thermo-gaskets, which are designed to efficiently transfer heat from memory chips to the copper basis of the cooler. Unfortunately, the cooling system is not directly in contact with the force elements. Their cooling is ensured by the cooling air flow.

All this construction is covered by black opaque housing. And from the edge there is fixed radial fan (turbine) with diameter of 76 mm. It has a 4-pin connection so the speed of rotation is controlled by PWM modulation.

In automatic control of fan speed at maximum load the graphics core warmed up to 74°, and cooler (as indicated by the monitoring) operated with 47% of its maximum capacity, that is approximately 1665 rpm. The noise level can be described as lower the medium level. It was quite comfortable for continuous operation near the PC.

After the forced increase of fan speed to the maximum level, the GPU temperature was 53° and cooler (as indicated by the monitoring) was operated with rate 3154 rpm. This result indicates good power reserve of his cooling system. In this case the noise level increased up to medium level and was quite comfort.

In case of load absence, due to energy-efficient technologies the operating frequency of the graphics core and memory automatically fell down. In this mode the GPU temperature did not exceed 33°.
