When building the low noise multimedia computer to watch movies or play games on the big screen the user always has to sacrifice by the performance, since most graphics cards with passive cooling system are based on a fairly low-power graphics processors.

There is a more complex and expensive option, which involves the replacement of the air cooling system by fluid option. Here, the user should have more advanced knowledges of building a computer, as well as additional investment of money.

The graphics card is shipped in a white cardboard box decorated with additional colorful illustrations. The front side has the image of graphics accelerator, the logo of the manufacturer, as well as an inscription «SILENT 0 dB», which reports about completely silent cooling system.

A graphics accelerator is made on black PCB with height of 112 mm. The arrangement of all the elements complies with the standard scheme. The graphics chip is equipped with a protective frame, which can protect it from chipping and damages during installation and removal of the cooling system.

Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti KalmX (2048MB GDDR5) is equipped with a three-phase power system: two of them are intended for the graphics processor, and another one for the memory chips. Taking into account the low power consumption of this card, which is less than 60 W, the power of such a scheme would be more than enough.

As you can see, the graphics accelerator is not equipped with additional power connectors, because it has the power of the slot PCI Express 3.0 x16 with capacity 75 W. As for the connector for bridge NVIDIA SLI, this model does not have it as a series of graphics cards NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti does not support this technology.

Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti KalmX (2048MB GDDR5) is based on the graphic chip NVIDIA GM107-400 (Maxwell), which is produced according technology process 28-nm. It consists of 5 active SMM-blocks, 640 unified shader pipelines (or CUDA cores in accordance with the terms of NVIDIA), 40 texture units and 16 ROPs. GPU’s frequency is 1020 MHz in nominal mode and 1085 MHz with the activation of the technology NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0. This is fully consistent with the frequency according the reference scheme, which is recommended by the manufacturer.

Total memory of the new product is 2 GB. It is collected with the help of 4 chips Samsung K4G41325FC-HC03 with capacity 512MB each. They work on the effective frequency 5400 MHz, and the exchange of data with the graphics core is realized via 128-bit bus with bandwidth 86.4 GB/s.

The test model is equipped with a completely passive cooling system that takes up two slots for expansion cards. Together with the installed cooling system the graphics card has a length of 196 mm and a height of 141 mm (measured in our lab).

On the reverse side of the radiator there is a copper area that has direct contact with the graphics chip through a thin layer of thermal paste. Also the edges of the radiator contact with transistors of power subsystem through special thermal gaskets, to speed up the heat transfer and improve the cooling.

Heat pipes are covered with a layer of nickel and are reliably soldered to a copper base and the ribs of the radiator. All these factors have a positive impact on the efficiency of the cooling system and we will check the following stress tests by using FurMark program.

At the maximum load the graphics was warmed up to 54°C. Due to the fact that the card is completely devoid of blowing, such low heat is a perfect indicator. If we take into account the fact that in normal (gaming) load the GPU temperature is a little lower, then we can safely say that this completely passive cooling system of the graphics accelerator operates even more effectively than some models with an active fan.

After the transition to the idle mode the core frequency was dropped to 135 MHz, and the temperature dropped to the level of 32°C.

In general we can say that the use of this graphics card even in a closed unventilated enclosure will be acceptable, as there is a good margin of safety to the critical temperature.
